IS THERE A WAY OUT?

Is there a way out?
Memories can be mean
Especially those
Which are painful,
And close to heart,
Those which you
Seem to have let go....
Yet!

There are so many
Fond and happy memories
But, I am still stuck
In the ICU,
Where She breathed her last.

The very bed on which She lay
Where She fought for death
Days that were a nightmare.

The very bed on which She lay
Her face brightening up
To my presence.

The very bed on which She lay
Conversing with others
Through my words.

The very bed on which She lay
Praying to be free
Of pain and suffering.

The very moment
When She was breathing her last
Praying by her bedside,
Holding her hand and
Hoping....

Is there a way out?

CONDITION(ED)

It seemed so right then
So, how could it be wrong?
Was it the age? Or
The rebel in me? Or
The idea to overcome a taboo?

Being vegetarians
We were brain washed
Not to touch meat.
Yet, I tried
Fearing my dad's wrath,
It was a big deal
Going against authority
I was both thrilled
And guilty....
But, how could that be?
The guilt won over
And till date
Veg is all I can eat!

LIFE - A PUDDLE.

I hear the shouts and cries and rush to the window to see what's happening. Its raining and some boys are dragging another boy to a large puddle that has formed in the lawn. The boy's screams turn into laughter once he is pushed into the puddle...now, everyone is giggling, splashing and rolling in the puddle. This done, they want to target someone else and so they are off chasing some girls who are shrieking. I am laughing myself.

Life is like a puddle....be still and it reflects what you want to see.
A slight wind ruffles the surface. Something falls in it and it ripples and if you throw something into it, it splashes and dirties you.

"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass,
It's about dancing in the rain."

What good is a life if it is just still? The fun is when you jump into it, roll in it and get dirty and muddled, and have loads of fun. You can always clean yourself later...;)

TREASURE TROVE.

My hands shakes lightly as I reach for the bag....tucked away in a closet and since forgotten. (You don't know what an occasional cleaning of the clutter yields.)
In front of me is a treasure trove of far greater value than money can buy. A treasure trove of emotions-good, bad, sad, joy...you name it, you can have it all.

Stacked neatly are the letters and the cards sent over the years...now, all I receive by mail are the bills.

The smell of old paper and ink....nostalgic. Most of the letters are written by mom...she wrote every other day, filling up the pages...words bound us though we were hundreds of miles apart.

Cards for all occasions, sent by friends, who long since are gone from my orbit and also love letters written by me to my then boyfriend, now my husband....filled with romance, innocence, longing that will be cherished life long.

Each letter a memory, a day that was, a page of my life, a moment lived and cherished today. The words written then, having the power to bring a smile, frown or a tear even today. Making me alive again. I run my fingers over them, feel them, clutch them to my heart. No gadget of today can replace these nor are they can be erased by the press of a button.

THIS OR THAT?

Can't life be simple?
Choices at every step,
Choose one and
Wonder about another.
Cooking?
I choose the easy way
Keep it simple,
Experimenting is a nay...
Cleaning?
I choose the easy way too,
Put it off to the next day
Is what I do...
Live in the moment
That's what I wanna do...
Curl up in bed
And sleep thru the blue.

FLOW ...WITH HER.

She is flexible
Bends, twists and turns

Yet, strong in her
Resolute and conviction
Smoothening many rough edges,

She is calm
Still and reflective,

She is dynamic
Donning her roles with flair,

She is patient
Clothed in endurance,

She is Nature
Just beautiful,

She quenches
She cleanses...
Your sense and sensibilities

She is ethereal
Yet, capable of rage and destruction.

THE CIRCLE.

Little did we know that forever ended at the end of the road! We were young, innocent and naive and we made promises, promises of ‘forever’ and sealed it with a pact, which none of us remember clearly though.

Growing up took us places...new schools, new friends, new places, new habits....exploring and discovering life, following the pack, going through the motions of life! We took it all in, grew up, and moved on and up.

Old friendships and their memories were tucked up and forgotten in some corner of the brain’s hippocampus, buried deep.

Technology happened, world became a smaller place and social networking sites cropping up like mushrooms. Everyone is rushing there to be a part of it, making friends they know, they don’t know. The more names you add, more popular you are or so you think....it is THE trend...and I am one of this pack.

While searching for familiar friends, an old and familiar name pops up....and you search more. And it comes in torrents - the childhood, the memories, the friends and their friendship...it is a chain reaction and off we are on the search of other familiar names.

Life has come a full circle...you meet them on-line, and curious are we to know how we have shaped up in life and we share our life stories, mostly the good ones....and we make plans to meet off-line, in real world and keep the old friendship alive and going.

This curiousness has an expiry date, soon the novelty wears off. The warmth with which rebounded, reconnected and recollected fizzles out as fast as it was formed...and the wheel of life kept turning.

“TIME, don’t let it slip away. Raise your drinking glass, here’s to yesterday...come full circle.” – Aerosmith.

DELVING INWARD...

A raging tempest
An unquenchable thirst
A dry earth
Seeking something?
What am I looking for?
Where will my quest take me?
Where are the pointers?
Going inward
See only chaos and
Confusion,
Seeking...
Searching...
Where is the goal?
Do I need to shed my old skin
To become new
And whole?
How will I know?
I take the help of the masters
Alas! Cannot master me.
Am a sponge,
Soaking in everything
Yet, unmoving.
Discovering myself
Wasn't enough...
The quest continues.......

WHO AM I DEFINING?

He smiles and nods at me
As he walks to his bike
A look of amusement in his eyes
As I fail to recognize.
I rake my brain
To find a name, place or time
Where or when I had seen him!
He is familiar, yet, I am lost.

Another day, another place-
I take my son for a hair cut
The barber is
Talking to a client,
Snipping away as he talks,
The bluetooth perched on his ears...
Cool!
He turns to greet me
Ah! Alright! He is the one!
I slap my hand on my head
Classism, casteism...
Exists in our minds

Times have changed
Progress everywhere
Nobody said I need to be stuck in a place.

CHANGE : THE ONLY CONSTANT.

Returning back seems strange
The 20+ years....
Seemingly, a dream
The childhood, the memories
The roots and the life I lived
All feels familiarly unfamiliar
People have grown
Apart - distant
Converging and diverging

A structure here,
A building there
I feel so out of place
In my birth place.
New faces in the neighborhood
Staring like I'm an alien!
The sameness of the place
Feels so different
Wrapped up and camouflaged.

Yet, I breathe in
The air,
The smell of the wet sand
See the faces familiar
The generality of life
Going on....
And, I love my home.
