All the preparation
Means nothing
When HE decides to
Pull the string!
We wished her - Death!
The only end to her suffering
Had fought together
A losing battle
With fate.
Might have read
The ready reckoner
Or the art of letting go
Knowledge seldom
Prepares you for
What's in store.
"Pulling the plug"
A tempting option to
End her suffering,
We just prolong her suffering.
A life is not enough
To comprehend death
It overwhelms you
Knocks you and tears your apart
To see a loved one depart.
oy puts me right back there in the room with my mother in law...and telling everyone we needed to give her permission to pass on so she would stop fighting it...one of the hardest days of my life....nice write ...smiles.

DeleteYes,all our rational or even 'Sannyasa' proves futile when a near and dear one is taken away by Him. You have put that anguish in a most touching way.

Thank you Poet Desh.
Delete'Letting go' has never been easy Janaki. When a close one departs,he/she leaves a void which never gets filled.Poignant lines ..
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharmila.
DeleteWhew, one is really never prepared for someone's death....especially when a decision is made, when it seems the best idea to 'pull the plug' but still one is left with the sadness and the questions of what is really right. A strong poem.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your thoughts Mary.
DeleteHow very well said of the struggle we humans go through at the end of a loved ones life. Puts in in mine of the family I lost a couple years ago, all were this hard, we will never know.
ReplyDeleteI wish and hope no one is ever in that situation where a decision has to be made to pull or not to pull the plug...
ReplyDeleteBikram's
Hard hitting and forceful...yet so vulnerable like life and like those last moments and I do agree with Bikram :)
