You laid down all the rules
With pride you did proclaim
Me? just another lost dame
You are the master of the game.
Following the heart and the gut
Fell into same pattern and the rut
Can't figure your cold mind
You are the master of the game!
In your scheme of things, we - a pawn
All the reverence, now they are gone
Can only hang our head in shame
You are the master of the game
Thought this is forever,
Like always - a misnomer!
For - dVerse poets
An attempt at a form called Kyrielle.
huh, i am wondering at the story behind this one...master of the game, same patterns and ruts the reverence gone head hung in shame...makes me wonder what happened, what they did to fall from grace....nice play with the form as well...
ReplyDeleteIt is the state of affairs in our country...crime has increased and the politicians we have voted into power has let us down hugely...all the mixed feelings of helplessness against the higher power too.
DeleteOuch, another broken relationship -- probably from a man who stopped presenting the fake courting-self. The guy reverts to his constant self whether it is the first, second or third marriage!
ReplyDeleteAlas, men are so predictable.
But maybe we all do the same -- we fool ourselves hoping both they and ourselves will change.
Lovely - liked your creative take on the recent incidents!!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your poem...and read it as related to a male/female relationship & then I read your explanation to Brian and I see it is politically based. Yes, it does seem that once politicians get into office so many promises turn to dust.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing in the world so easily broken as a politician's promise. Can't live with them - wonder if life as we know it would be possible without them.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I initially thought of this as a male/female poem, but it works well both ways.
I read this as political from first read. Very careful articulation here and powerful. I like the assonance and the consonance you use, staying strict to meter and making variations as you need. This is a very fine kyrielle sonnet! Thanks and have a wonderful holiday.
ReplyDeletedon't put your faith in politicians and dudes who only want to meet at your place...
ReplyDeletethat last part was more for me :)
Janaki, love your creative pieces, make the readers think.
ReplyDeletehmmm I need to learn what this Kyrielle is . there are so many types and I am too dumb..
ReplyDeletebut i liked the way you have used the words .. it made someone like me to think too but the problem in our country is that there are a lot of problems and everyone want to solve everything ..
if only we take it one at a time ..
Bikram's
I had to google Kyrielle to know what it meant ;) Something new yet easily adaptable... Loved how you did it with politics and power play :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on doing the form--a real challenge for me! And the sense of your poem is well done--and can apply in many relationships. I was sad to read of the recent crime in your country (I think you are in India) and the death of the young woman. I hope politicians were awakened by it.
