For almost 35 years of my life, I never had a bad hair day. There were actually some Beauty Salons that refused to cut my hair. My husband did not talk to me for two days when I first cut my hair short post marriage. Sigh! It was my hair he loved. Men and their fetishes!
So, wondering what happened after 35? I experimented with hair colors.
Those almost 35 years without colors...I had waist length, silky, straight hair. And, my hair care routine was to use Shikakai, and rita soap nuts . And, the hair shone- naturally! Shampoos were bad news among the South Indian household. Yeah, yeah there was less pollution then, more organic food and loads on sun. But, never a bad hair day.
That's me some 20 years back.
Now, I cannot help but smile when the hair care advice columns in newspaper and magazines list the myths surrounding coloring of hair. Of course, they accelerate the growth of silver hair, hair fall and not to mention that the quality of hair goes for a toss. The whole texture of my hair has changed...from straight to waves to curls to frizzy, they style on their own. I couldn't care less...because I love my crowning glory. Some days, they are all over my head and face like a halo!
A few times I had to pay to get my hair straightened, I felt awful. And, how could I let go off the chance when Indiblogger announced the review of Sunsilk Perfect Straight Shampoo and Conditioner?
The first time I used this shampoo, my hair was immensely soft, had a bounce and volume apart from smelling divine.
Third day onwards ( well, I followed the instructions to the T and used this shampoo daily) the hair went limp, dry and dull. My hair fall increased.
By 5th day...I had had enough. They did not straighten my hair even by a millimeter. I strongly recommend not to use this shampoo on a daily basis. Definitely, not for colored hair. So, I am happy back to having a halo around my head!

Oh God, that pic Janaki...! Gorgeous..! I too had hair that hung below my hips. I could sit on it! And now? Sigh.

Gosh, you have lovely hair. Don't mess with it by testing new products.
ReplyDeletewow, beautiful picture of you....
ReplyDeleteand good job being honest in your review
they are not all good...
Janaki, love your picture with long hair, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGood that you are telling it like it is, Janaki. I like the picture of that actress that you used here. ;)
ReplyDeleteHah...the anti-post! Love it. I hope you win!
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I was not going to read this because you had amply warned upfront that this was a contest entry. But your gorgeous photograph was too compelling to give this a miss! :)
Kudos to you for being so frank! I don't ever experiment with shampoos. I have stuck with both Dove shampoo and soap for a long long time now. And really what lovely hair you had. Beautiful pic you shared.
ReplyDeletePut it bluntly, isn't it ? Short post & still very effective writing !
