I stood looking out of the window, staring at nothing. My mind a whirlpool of thoughts. I shouldn’t have let him go. Should have talked him out of it. Would it help? No! He was too passionate about his work. He liked challenges and being posted overseas to cover the war was a dream come true to him, whatever the underlying consequences!
A little over six months now, his letters to me have been few. The phone calls fewer…but, whenever we talk, I can sense his tension, the edge and the love. Can we carry on like this? For how long? My nerves are wrought with tension; my eyes forlorn and expectant; aching for him, his touch, the comfort of his hug.
I can hear the phone ringing in the distance. I run and grab it! Oh! This feeling of “cliff hanger”-edginess. “Hi darling! Am coming back!" Prayers answered!
