PITTER PATTER

I look at myself…
A bit muddy,
Wee bit dirty;
I smile and jump,
The image vanishes
With a splash!

Opening my arms wide
Letting the cool
Aqua drench me
Hydrate my thirsty soul;
Throwing my head back
I taste the nectar.
Wrap my hands around myself
And hop to the sounds of
Pitter patter.

Squish
Squish
The walk

Swish
Swish
The windy spray;

Oh! How I love these rain filled days!

THE PAIN OF PASSION.

Well now, please don’t get any ideas about the word Passion. Read “boundless enthusiasm” instead.

These days I walk with the gait of an arthritic. No, I don’t have arthritis. By now, everyone knows my passion for long distance running. I am suffering from the pain of chasing a dream. Everyone generally writes about pleasure, happiness and good things in life. I thought why not write about pain…a pain which gives me immense pleasure! Wacky?

I have been training for long distance running since last February…it has been on and off because my legs pain, especially the shins which are not strong enough to withhold the impact.

Success isn’t a result of spontaneous combustion. You must set yourself on fire” – Arnold H.Glasow.

From the first step in the morning till the last step when I am done for the day, my every step is deliberate, controlled and measured. An ‘ouch’ or an ‘ufff’ escapes my lips involuntarily. Every time I get down or climb up the stairs, I sweat with the effort. I am becoming a bit too dependent on the painkillers, but, I really cannot function without them. I have forgotten what it is like to be pain free. A few of my toe nails have turned blue; I have painted them with blue nail color and tad aaa! Did I say I have blisters too??

God gives us dreams a size too big so that we can grow in them” – Author Unkonwn.

When I start off with my running practice, the first few hundred meters or so is hell. I must will myself to take every step…wobbly and afraid (yes, afraid!) that my knees will give way and I may buckle anytime, yet,I carry on. When the step falls ‘in step’…the leg and hand movements co-ordinate along with my breathing- then it is pure joy and exhilaration. I enjoy every movement of my run, it is very liberating.

“Success comes in cans, not cant’s” – Author Unknown.

There are times when my body tells me to slow down…it is important to listen to the body too else it will feel abused. So, I shut down completely twice a week, no work outs, no running, and no walking either. The muscles need all the rest to rejuvenate and recuperate. During those times, I visualize my run, mentally affirming and motivating myself and see that I am crossing the 21k mark. It feels so real that I can almost touch my dream!

“The difference between try and triumph is a little umph” – Author Unknown.

Well, I am not writing this to glorify my pain. I just want to say that it hurts you a lot more to let go of something which you could have accomplished, only because you did not try a wee bit more. It takes a lot of strength to hang in there…and things will fall into the place.

“Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it” – Buddha.

No pain, no gain…just chase your dream!

IN YOUR LIGHT.

Like a firefly
The glow is from within
Feeling like a
Celestial being
Encompassed in a halo
Colorful aura surrounding.
The colorful stars
Reflecting in the stare
Lights illuminating the streets
Radiating the face.
Is it me, you or the lights?
You change by the Moon
Yet, you changed me
Made me resplendent in love.

THE ROGUE

Well…he is a rogue…
Craving and succumbing
To temptation
For enchanting creations
Craving and drooling
At the delightful sights
Of exquisite beauty.
So bold,
So shameless,
Always eyeing them
And licking the lips
Without a care for
Peoples stare.
So open in his
Admiration…
Feasting with his eyes,
Oh! Yes, he is rouge nevertheless,
He is my sweet tooth…nonetheless.

VOODOO.

The tiny needles sting
Making me bleed internally
Pain – sweet and bitter
Unexplained.
Wearing my heart
On my sleeve like a charm.
Your love, an amulet;
A holy candle burning bright
Am in trance with
Your spirit within me
Like a poison spreading
Possessing me…
A spell cast by your voodoo.

A PROMISE

“Listen to your heart,
It muddles your mind.”
We kept on chanting this
Giggling and rolling in the sand.

We promised to meet every year
Had promised to keep the promise
As LIFE had parted us
On our separate ways
In search of what ahead lay.

Years later, am sitting here,
The calm aqua reflecting
The riot of autumn…but,
Not the storm within.

We had thrown pebbles here,
Swam, fished, fought,
Made out…with guys,
This was our hangout
This was our place
Oh! Those youthful ways
Of carefree days.

This wait has been longer
Seems you don’t remember…
As I get up to go…
A reflection,
Eyes meeting on the water’s surface
The smiles,
Eyes misting over
And a promise kept!

FIREWORKS.

The moonlit ocean
Sparkled in the night
Fireworks illuminating the sky
Momentarily blinding
The glimmer of the stars.
The lights reflecting in
Your twinkling eyes
Like little fireflies,
Radiating your beauty in the dark.
I touched your face,
And you trembled,
You turn to face me…
Our eyes lock and
Mirror our emotion.
The soft wind rustling
Your lustrous hair
Your lips ablaze with heat
Resplendent halo embraces
And envelopes us,
Intensifying the sparks between us.
 Swept off and drowned
We lay on the sand, spent
As the horizon is aglow
With spectacular aurora.

RECAPTURING.

Here’s my life
Spread out in front of me
The years, sewn together
The colors of life
Merging together in
Interweaving patterns.
Colors of childhood –
Innocent, joy and gay;
Lavender cots wool
With cute blue flowers
The warmth of my babyhood nights.
The blue pinafore of my school
Reminiscence of my youthful days;
The orange silk top
Showing off my youthful curves
Had made him wild on our first date.
The black lace gown
That made me the prom queen;
The flaming red negiligee
Reminding me of the
First night of my wedded life;
My first baby shower-
Smiling brightly at
Friends and family….
The mint green skirt
That hubby had lovingly brought.
They are all here laid out,
The pieces of my life,
Bright, light, dark as night
Giving me warmth and smiles.

TODAY - THE WAY OF LIFE.

Looming and luminous
Against the dark skies
Tall and menacing in the day
Taller shadows
Prophecy of a doomsday!
Broken, battered, vacant eyes
Beseeching sights and heavy sighs
Drowned by the cacophony
And noise
Contrasting lives
For joy, we strive,
Endless- cheerless jive.
Frenetic existence
Shrinking patience
Burgeoning distance
Automated enthusiasm
Some price we pay for urbanization.

FALLING.

Can I trust this?
What is happening?
This seems to be
Slipping through
My fingers….
Am losing control.
This does not make sense,
Never had,
Am caught up
In this whirlpool
A surreal experience.
Joy, so deep
It tears the eyes,
And overwhelms
The heart
I’m falling…
Being sucked
By a force
That’s unseen.
