"I will protect you"
Says -
Doting dad,
Loving brother,
Amorous boyfriend,
(not so) interested partner...
Only some men brave
Enough to give them
Wings - to fly;
Others just bind them
In the name of -
Society
Safety
Love
Clipping their wings
And dreams
- A frog in the well-
Is all She becomes
While staring at the sky!

you touch a sensitive topic and i wish there were more men brave enough to give them wings to fly..
ReplyDeleteI wish the same too...thanks Claudia.
Deleteinsightful...
ReplyDeleteThanks Sumukh.
DeleteThis made me think. Very interesting topic choice. The image of the frog in the well is a clever one.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mitchell.
DeleteLove the picture - and the poem draws well from there.
ReplyDeletewow.." a frog in the well staring at the sky"..that was a very poignant way of describing it all...Very well done! I really liked this..(as I do all your poems)...you expressed the reality that so many women experience at one level or another...True love does not bind us but lets us go and that's when our hearts willingly return.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Jess.
DeleteNice one...and thoughtful.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tarang.
DeleteIt is only wishful thinking on our part that so many men of the world would be able to give the women in their life the wings that the women give to them. But the main thing about this that bothers me is that the majority of these men were raised by a female. What is wrong with this picture of females raising these males who want to clip the wings of every female they lord over? I just shake my head at not understanding how this happens.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a good thing for this to be pointed out and a frog in the well is a great description because once there it is very difficult to escape and staring at the sky wishing for freedom from the wishing well rarely happens. I think a thousand years from now she will still be wishing. A very, very big sigh!!!
Thanks for such a thoughtful thought for this weeks Theme Thursday.
God bless.
True Mrsupole...majority of men were raised by a female...who was house was dominated by a man.
DeleteEvery time a woman gives birth to a baby girl she dreams of a life very different to hers, trying to realize them through her daughter. But, there are always men around who just do not let this happen.
Thank you so much.
it would be my heart to give them wings to fly...and the frog in the well staring at the sky is a great image and metaphor to convey the emotions...can see but just not reach...
ReplyDeleteNot everyone is liberal minded Brian...thanks.
DeleteThis is the dilemma of young ladies. Sometimes they rebel knowing the injustice. But society is uncompromising! Sad! Nice write Janu!
ReplyDeleteHank
Powerful write.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mama Zen.
DeleteReading this Janu breaks my heart. To think that this happens at all to women anywhere is a scary thought to me. Do you think that this is done out of fear? Women have so much to offer, why would anyone want to 'clip their wings', other than to silence their insight and compassion for life. Very well written Janu, but I leave with a heavy heart.
ReplyDeleteIts still a man's world out there Mary....thanks.
DeleteFreedom is definitely something to be VALUED. Those of us (women) who have it must work to try to help those who don't have it to be allows to HAVE it. There is still so much inequity (for women) in the world.
ReplyDeleteTrue...thank you Mary.
DeleteDear Poetess,
ReplyDeleteOnce again your words hold truth and power. Sadly, unconditional love is not for everyone. Many love with conditions and believe it is PURE love. In fact, love is the most overused word between lovers. Love is the ultimate freedom of the heart...
My dear Andy,
DeleteYou should be the official preacher of LOVE.
Thanks.
The Yoke of Love!!!
ReplyDeleteVery nicely written Janu.
I LOVED your 55!!
Thanks for playing, thanks for your wonderful support, and please have a Kick Ass Week-End.
Glad to be a part of 55...thanks.
DeleteYour poem is deep and well written!!!
ReplyDeleteSo powerful, moving, and sad . . . so many women are denied their freedoms all in the name of love.
ReplyDeleteBlessings and thanks for another amazing poem!
Thank you Martha.
DeleteAmazingly creative ! The images used in all your writings are also unique.
ReplyDeleteYou are prolific !
Thanks vasuda.
DeleteWow...on so many levels!
ReplyDeleteThanks Hope.
DeleteI felt irritated at the woman for allowing any of this to happen....it's good to feel...
ReplyDeleteSometimes things are forced on her. Thanks.
DeleteI wish more men to give their daughters wings ~
ReplyDeleteThoughtful write ~
Thanks Grace.
DeleteThat said it all! Powerful!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rim.

Delete"Killing me softly"
ReplyDeletea dangerous proposition
:-) thanks aprille.
DeleteJanu, this was beautiful. So many woman are fettered to men through tradition and ignorance. One must fly to know who they truly are. It's so sad that many of our sister continue to be treated as property.
ReplyDeleteSending love my sweet sister poet.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Leah. <3
DeleteAnd, isn't that sad. To have such a precious gift of a beautiful butterfly, to stick a pin in it and keep it as a trophy no-one else may see instead of allowing that beauty to be shared by all.
ReplyDeleteSo, so sad Janu, and yet, it happens to so many, all the time.
Beautiful poetry.
Well said...thank you.
DeleteSuch a beautiful, yet emotional poem. I am one of the few blessed ones who found love the second time. The first marriage was exactly as you described it. I thought I will surely go insane. Now, Mr.Shakira is one who let me fly and do whatever I want as long as I am safe and take care of us and family.
ReplyDeleteSuch a potent 55! Great job!
Mine is here
Have you a Rocking Weekend!
hugs
shakira
Thanks Shakira.
DeleteTo the enduring spirit in you and all of us :_)
ReplyDeleteThanks KKKKaty
DeleteTruly Sensitive & Beautiful...
ReplyDeleteThanks Anshul.
DeleteWow, this is so powerful! I've been that "frog in the well" and am quite happy to shake off that dust. You've captured many of the facets of love quite well in this. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary.
Delete...while staring at the sky. Wonderfully dramatic way to end this poem.
ReplyDeleteWords so profound that they stir the soul. So much meaning in so few words. A very powerful and stimulating poem. Beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteThanks Raj.
DeleteHer freedom makes him insecure.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressed.
beautifully expressed!
ReplyDeleteFirst visit here and I'm floored! :)
I think love goes with freedom and if there isn't any, then it isn't love at all...
