Pregnant pauses, thick yet comfortable
Eyes lock momentarily, empty glance
Words swallowed, muted babble
Everything so familiar, a routine dance
Each line on the face, every stance
The gestures that are made
The smiles bordering grimace
A decade together and the magic fades.

A great reminder to all of us to keep the fires of passion burning; we should never be content with routine.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressed!
Thanks Martha.
DeleteSadly this reflects that period a friend of mine called - just another day in "paradise"...everything fine but nothing amazing. Exceptionally well written huitain - the form effortlessly and seamlessly conveys the contents - terse and tense. Truly poetic.
ReplyDeleteThanks Beachanny.
DeleteSometimes the magic of passion fades - but the love lasts. Beautifully written.

That poem expresses a sad sentiment. And I, the reader, will think, let that never happen to me. But you point out appearance to be the key to the magic, when, after all, you know each other utterly well. I will keep that in mind.
ReplyDeleteNice use of the huitain! :-)
:-) thanks Andres.
DeleteComfortable familiarity can be a cold fireplace! Lovely poem!
ReplyDeleteThanks Gemma.
Deletethat last line is sad...the fading of the magic def happens but in many ways only if you let it....
ReplyDeleteTrue Brian...thanks.
DeleteLovely. There are some sad truths here.
ReplyDeleteYeah. Thanks Pat.
DeleteThere are ups and downs! Truly said Janu! But the fires of passion need constant rekindling to make life interesting. It's the same expected of everyone from their love ones. But the reactions differ though!

I wish it'd never come to this... we need magic!
