Non-conformists
Freaks and eccentrics
They were all there before
Revolutionizing freakiness
Has everyone going "Gaga" over her
Violence, power and sex
Sells
Extreme is not extreme to her
Controversies, her love game
Riding the charts
Just dancing away
To the edge of glory
With unabashed vanity
Feeding the paparazzi
Raking in the moolah
And her mantra -
"Don't be a drag, just be a queen"
Revered by millions...
Why do we love deviants?
For - dVersepoets.com

good question... maybe it's a safe thing to look up to those rebels in music and film while we continue to walk on our average paths, watching them from a safe distance...
ReplyDelete:-)True...thanks Claudia.
Deleteha ther is something alluring to someone so free to do as they please....i think in some way we all pine for that freedom though seldom act on it....
ReplyDelete:-)Thanks Brian.
DeleteYes, why do people seem to celebrate weird celebrities? Seems like idol worship to me . . .
ReplyDeleteFantastic poem on this subject though, Janu. I really enjoyed it!
Blessings!
Thank you Martha.
DeleteVery very interesting ..... Now....is gaga a rebel? ... Or is she taking us for fools? I'm not sure....BUT, you raise a really interesting point....why do we love deviants? Is it because they are living the actions we dream to do but dare not?.... Maybe.....or is it because they give rise to questions, change, thought......this was a fine poem....and certainly got ME thinking.....personally....whilst her music isn't for me....I think gaga is great as what she does....I think it's been done before...but she entertains and causes contrversey!
ReplyDeleteDear Poetess,
ReplyDeleteSorry about the linkup issues. I have just added your blog to Blog Hop Saturday! Happy hopping!
Why indeed? good point made well.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nilanjana.
DeleteOh yes we seem to lap them up now - the freakier the better - encouraging the weird, to my mind. Fantastic question, Janaki and put across so well too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Corinne.
DeleteI think diviants have a fire that innocents dont. some how this seem to reflect my current post in a way tiled "the black swan dance" hope u will visit. http://jerlyt.blogspot.in/2012/09/the-black-swan-dance.html
ReplyDeleteI have seen the movie and liked it a lot...we do have a dark side which we try not to portray for others...
DeleteThanks Jerly
WHO?? :) :) :) ..... Nice One. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jyothi.
DeleteMaybe the human race is going Gaga. Good question and superbly written.
ReplyDeleteThanks Suzy
DeleteYes why do we love deviants? Is it because not all have the courage and the spunk to be one? Good thought!
ReplyDeleteI do think so Rim...thanks,
DeleteDear Poetess,
ReplyDeleteAgain, in my opinion, its all about the appeal. There are some women whom we can take home to meet Mum, then there are others...well, you know what I mean. I know about her very well my friend. To me and YES, this is what I truly believe, its all about the HEART of the woman and NOT the title the world place on her. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing Andy.
DeleteI liked this piece Janu. I can see your fascination with Gaga here, but I like how you question her intentions and ours. I think we like "deviants" because of the bravery they exhibit. A lot of times they are just as shy and scared as we are, but through an art form you can create a canvas or character where you can be whatever or whoever you want so perhaps what we're really admiring underneath it all is ourselves. ;-)

Hi Janu,
ReplyDeleteI am here from Andy's blog hop!
I simply fell in love with the title of your poem and the words of it are so wonderful. We all need to somewhere accept ourselves as we are to be accepted by everyone around us.
Born this way - will remember these words for a long time ....
Well its not about going against the norm as much as doing what you want to ..
ReplyDeleteand to reply to your question because somewhere we also want to do the same , and since we CANT do it we admire the ones who do it ..
Came here for the blog hop saturday .. although its a tuesday todya :)
Bikram's
why do we love deviants? maybe it's because they're not afraid to show who they really are. this was truly thought-provoking and great poem as always! i like some of lady gaga's songs. whenever i'm feeling insecure, i would start singing the lyrics of "born this way" and i feel much better. <3 :-)
