BALANCING ACT.

Tea, coffee, milk
To each his own.
"Ewww! I can't eat this"
Heard at the breakfast table.

"Maaaaa, tell him not to irritate me."
Bang! goes the door.
"I want to play football"
Tak, tak, tak...

More screaming
As I turn deaf
The TV blares along with
The scuffling and bickering.

"Can't you stop their fight?"
"Ugh! I am watching TV"
And the volume goes up a notch
I throw up my hands.

Deep breathing
Counting up to ten...
How we try to remain sane
Amidst this daily madness!

  4. This is the 3rd or 4th poem inspired by motherhood in response to the balance prompt. There's definitely a message in that fact alone. Wonderful reminder.

Well, I have certainly seen this among my nephews and nieces. I personally don't have kids so this have never affected me. WOW, I could only imagine (smile). Thanks for sharing.

  10. Now this brings back so many memories of the days when the kids brightened my days. That daily chaos was intense and brewing so much love, even amidst the struggle. Your use of the dialogical form is very effective, as it puts us into the action as it unfolds, so realistically so vividly.

It will pass quickly... though right now it seems not quickly enough! Well done.

  12. I think the daily madness happens more in our workplace than in our house :P...

I like the title ~ I wonder how moms manage :P
