Social issues and causes
Awakens the individual’s conscience
The blood boils,
Discussions and debates heat up
A surge is seen in the
Morale of the people…
A feeling to do good
For a larger cause;
Mass hysteria grips and
Swept in this tide
Personal differences become
Trivial against significant issues
Bills get passed,
Reforms happen,
Laws get amended and
Goals achieved.
This feeling recedes and
Patriotism sleeps
The warrior is again
A common man!

if only....
ReplyDeletei wish it were that simple, but business buys the laws, we vote in who they offer and complacently take what crumbs fall from the table...
really not a cynicist but campaign season does this to me...smiles.
Well said! For me, your poem vividly expresses the fact that as the political landscape changes, it somehow remains the same. I especially like the last four lines.

ReplyDeleteA very important issue...excellently portrayed.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid the awakening is too late for those who follow.
