WHAT DO YOU SEE?

I stood by the window watching the rain pour down…always mesmerized by the sound and smell of the rain.

“What are you looking at?” Lucy asked from somewhere behind me, she was reading a book.

“It is so beautiful down there on the street. So many people, oblivious to the rain, going on about with their daily chores, the downpour cannot keep them indoors. It is a variety of umbrellas, rainbow of colors…seems as if the colors are floating down the streets. I feel like flying off with the gust of wind, floating in the air, my hair wet with rain and blowing, the coolness sending a shiver down my spine…” Lucy was listening with rapt attention. All of a sudden, I felt guilty. I went to her, held her hand, “I am sorry Lucy, I did not realize…”; my voice trailing away as she silenced me by putting a finger on my lips.

“You know Liz, we can look into your heart. We are blessed with this unique gift which you ‘sighted’ people can seldom see.”
I couldn’t agree less!

Winged umbrella...very apt for your story.
A sweet tale indeed, but you took me by surprise with the ending though.
    Nicely expressed.

  4. I had a blind friend who kept asking for explanations for things having to do with sight, like the way people react to color or motion. He kept asking, but never really wanted to know.
