It was a ritual. The girl’s day out, the first Sunday of the month. Come what may, it was something none of us wanted to miss, and did not miss until now. It has been a record of sorts – 25 years and still going strong.
“Gypsy Girls” we call ourselves, the six of us. We have been inseparable since our kindergarten. All from the same locality going to the same high school and met up every evening after college.
We have been a family – through thick and thin, hook –ups and break-ups, marriages and funerals, baby showers, baptism…..we are soul sisters and more.
Tara is the only spinster in our group, waiting for her knight in shining armor. To think of it, she has been acting a bit weird since last few meetings; seems there is a guy and love is in the air. Yet, instead of being happy, she seems preoccupied. “There are issues to sort out….it is complicated….not an easy relationship” was all she has hinted.
We let our imaginations take flight when she didn’t show up for our date today. No one missed our date…even if any of us were having labor pains; our date took priority over the delivery of the baby, yes, that thick. How could she? Was she with this guy? Blah, blah, blah… We tried calling her only to find her mobile switched off. We wrapped up our meeting on a sour note and promised to keep each other posted if we heard from Tara.
I was surprised to find Nick’s car parked in the driveway so early in the evening. Wanting to surprise him, I tiptoed into the house and into our bedroom. There she was with Nick in the bed and everything fell into place.
This is a Magpie Tale.
