POE A TREE HOP

This week on the Poe-a-tree hop the theme or prompt is about the change of seasons, what is your favorite season? For more, visit....Roy's Garage Sell and Auction.

RAIN ON.

New Year starts off on a cold note. I do look forward for the New Year as it promises of renewed hope, new beginnings and full 12 months to look forward to.

January – I like this month because I celebrate my birthday on this month. But, winter is something which I am not comfortable with. The cold weather makes my skin dry and my hair frizzy, making me look like a porcupine! Cracked heels and chapped lips is not something I want to deal with.

Onset of spring – I look forward to this season as there is a spurt of life in the nature… trees start growing new leaves and this is a time for festivities too. More than anything else, this is a season of Mangoes – the King of Fruits. How I like to devour them! Any size, any variety…I relish them with gusto.

Summer – This is the time when the schools are closed and I get to visit my ‘home.’ But, this too is not a season I like as I do not like the heat, humidity, the sweating and the rashes.

The season that is worth my wait is the rainy season. Right from the first drops of the season, the smell of the earth when it quenches its thirst, the cool breeze with wet sprays…everything entices me. I can sit by my window for hours together with a hot cup of tea and watch the rain fall. Everything seems washed up and clean. The birds taking a plunge in the small puddles, washing themselves and playing, is a sight so mesmerizing.

Sometimes when it is raining, the birds are sleeping on the branches with their eyes closed, beaks tucked in and they seem to be deep in meditation, looking like cute little Buddha’s.

Recently, when I was vacationing in a small town of Kerala, South India, we decided to visit a fort which was about 30-35k away from our town. So, we hired an auto rickshaw and piled up in it and were on our way. Mid way, it started raining so heavily that we could hardly see what was in front of us. Added to this, the rickshaw did not have a wiper! We were on a highway, with heavy downpour, the rickshaw in full speed without a wiper…this is the craziest thing I have done in recent times! My brother-in-law wanted to turn back, but I insisted on going on. Am glad we did, as we visited a couple of beautiful beaches…pristine, clear, unpolluted and virgin. I love the beaches especially when it is raining, not the stormy type of raging seas but the misty and foggy type.
I love the way “life” comes back after the rain; the birds start chirping, people come out of their hiding places, vehicles start plying and everyone go about doing their business after a brief break.

To me, the rainy season is the most romantic season of all.
