THE QUEST

“Stop the chatter!” – I say.
They become quiet.
Then, one of them whispers
To others to join in….
“Come on, I am trying to sleep here.”
And they shut up, just for a while.
And again they are back at it.
Sleep eludes, I as well meditate.
I choose my place,
Sitting cross-legged,
I close my eyes,
To experience some peace.
…..And they start the chatter again!
Oh! These thoughts of mine!
Constantly on my mind,
Causing ripples of thoughts,
Eluding the one thing I seek.

  1. I think everything and everyone will always try to distract you when you are trying to concentrate, including your very own thoughts and brain. Thus, I agree with you. Great poem.

  6. Isn't it ironic that at the very moments we want to empty our minds and just be still, those thoughts simply won't let us alone?
Terrific poem, Janu! So beautifully expressed!

  7. Our thoughts are definitely the biggest factors that hinder us in meditation! I have been plagued by "monkey mind" more times than I can recall. What has helped me a lot is the practice of passage meditation, or a mantra, to help me focus. I could definitely relate to your reflections! :)

  13. The more we push them away, the more they become wild... but if it becomes a part of our reality, then it could be helpful in finding our peace.

It takes a lot of openness and practice ;).

I loved how you wrote this!
