Saw him everyday at the park
With concentrated effort he would walk
Beads of sweat glistening his forehead
He carried on undaunted,
With a walker for balance and support....
Pity was all I felt!
Two months down the line
Now, in his shoes
I can understand his pain
My respect, he did gain.

mmm...life has that way of humbling us...and he is a hero if for no other reason than inspiring with his endurance...

Yes...she is and that's me. Thanks.
DeleteI see a man with a cane every day at the park where I walk, doing his "two" as he calls it. I am thankful for my health, knowing it won't always be so. The body wears out.
ReplyDeleteLove this poem!

Thanks Charles.
DeleteOh, such a great reflection here! Truly, you have had to walk in his shoes . . .But, hope not for long!
ReplyDeleteI hope so too Martha...thanks.
DeleteNothing really hits home until you've walked a mile in someone else's shoes, I do hope that you are healing fast and pain free :)
ReplyDeleteThanks SJ.
DeleteIt's so hard to imagine walking in someone else's shoes..but when you do you gain great insight and respect.......Feel better soon miss janu......As always...XOXOXOXO
ReplyDeleteIt is difficult to keep prospective when seeing this, feeling pity is often our response to another's frailties. There is nothing quite like being put there with them to turn that around. Heal quickly and love to you. <3
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan.
DeleteBetter understanding always comes from a journey within another's shoes.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does.
DeleteWe must always beware lest we give those we see less love than they deserve. So hard, because love is well whose water never goes dry. Thank you for reminding me that in the way I treat the downtrodden and those less fortunate, so I am judged.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked this.
DeleteThis touched my heart, Janaki. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Irene.
DeleteWe really are all connected and the kindness we others is the kindness we give to ourselves.

So true...thanks Leah.
DeleteJanaki, yes! Having worked with the elderly a good part of my nursing career, this is truly heroic.

ReplyDeleteI'll bet it was a humbling experience for you too, especially with the shoe being on the other foot, so to speak.
