The day I was
Born - a girl,
The word 'conform'
Was stamped on me.
It's the norm
Nothing less in this
Male dominated world,
In the name of customs
And traditions
Some things you
Just do not question.
So many don'ts
Than dos
Sacrifices and
Compromises
Only few parents
Let their daughters choose
Only those who care
Will dare
To go beyond
The confines and
Break the shackles
Let their character
Define...because
Change happens
Only when you
Make it happen!
Linda wants us to tell what conformity means to us on BlogFEST2012.
So much more pressure on women to conform than on men. Great reflection, Janu!
ReplyDeletebrings to mind stories i've heard about the childhood of Amelia Earhart, for example, that she got into trouble with her childhood teachers because of her 'independent nature' and boyish interests in sports, adventure and mechanical things. we must persevere...
ReplyDelete:-) thanks for the input Linda.
Deletewe are the ones that make it happen...and to conform to others label they put upon us is a rather sad life...women and minorities have def felt the brunt of this over the ages...i am glad for those that stood up....
ReplyDeleteYeah, the scenario is changing for the better I guess...thanks.
DeleteBeautifully written and love the take on the prompt. My favorite line,
ReplyDelete"Only those who care,
will dare."
Thanks for sharing in my prompt today!
Thank you too.
DeleteBold and daring and I love it. It's a new age and the world really needs to understand...women are human, too.
ReplyDeleteWell done.
Women are people too and should be allowed to shine. Hopefully the days of conforming will one day come to an end.

My father has made my world so special as he insisted that being a girl is no difference than a boy. He gave me the chance to stand tall among them and I hope the world that our girls are in now would do the same.
ReplyDeleteThat's really commendable of your dad. You are blessed.
Deletesad sad but thankfully I have been brought up in a family where women are given equal standing.. I use to argue with my dad that he spoilt my sister so much more than me.. curfew time for ME the boy ot be back at home was 9:30pm.. whereas the rest of the boys wud go out at 9pm ..
ReplyDeleteBikram's
That's really cool and inspiring...thanks Bikram.
Delete:-) We we break this mold one day...soon. Thanks Poonam.
ReplyDeleteExcellent Poem...if we want change, we need to bring it about!!
