I walked with my head bowed
Lost in thoughts
Searching for answers
For the questions created.
I walked fast as if my pace will
Leave everything behind
The pain, the hurt,
The worries and the tears.
I walked past
The blur of the houses, the stores
The faces and the market places...
The heart heavier
The breath laboured
The body sweating....I walked on.
I found myself in a park
Amidst a crowd
Dads, moms, kids,
Granpas and grannys.
I heard the kids laughter
Going down the same slide
Again and again....never bored.
I saw a pregnant woman
Bright from glow within
Dreams in her eyes, smile on her lips.
Saw the young bond with the old
People connect, in this disjointed world.
I walked on head held high
Opening my eyes...only to look ahead.

Awesome, awesome poetry. I absolutely adore this one, Janaki...
ReplyDeleteThanks Dear.
DeleteIt can be sometimes surreal, when walking carrying such heavy thoughts and reflections and looking out at a world so seemingly happy and light. I loved your poem. Great job!
ReplyDeleteReally nice!

DeleteThis is really good Janaki! I have had walks like that but in the end always keep my head up and look the world straight in the eyes :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nelieta.
DeleteMy precious Janu,
ReplyDeletePowerful words indeed. Very moving and touching. Sadly, this is how some people really feel. You expressed your thoughts with grace and style.
The melancholic lines at the start are beautiful and I love how this poem ended so positively! Great poem, Janaki! <3 :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Irene.
DeleteYou just described beautifully what we all experience at times when we feel like walking literally and figuratively, walking amidst strangers, and yet knowing everybody is somehow just like us, longing to be noticed by all the rest who are just walking and passing us by.
ReplyDeleteWonderfully interpreted, thank you Joyce.
DeleteThanks for sharing with us. Seeing those around us as people with histories and dreams is something that I stupidly overlook at times. Need to do better.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYou sometimes need some time to spend with yourself not to understand the world but search answers within, yes u want peace n need to be alone n then surroundings all around created by god, give u d answer!
ReplyDeleteGood one! V honest one rather!
